Some random front-of-mind pieces from my week.
π Ran 15.8km / 259m profile - I really want to get my running mojo back. June is the month. I'm going to take some action for my routine to return. While up in Auckland I got out for a short jog by the ocean. That was a nice change.
π± Mulched the garlic which have sprouted. Started to tidy up around the fruit trees in the backyard too. Grasses are starting to take over.
π’ Work - Flew up to Auckland to do the practical KNX training and sit the theory and practical exams. KNX is the communications protocol that our integrated devices use to talk to each other. Content delivery of the training was average but we got through it. Looking forward to doing the programming for our projects.
π» Scored a Lenovo all-in-one desktop computer for $30 after a random scroll through Markplace. It came with Windows 7 in a foreign language, and after a few failed attempts at switching to English I just wiped it clean with a Debian install from the BIOS. I am trying out the LQXt desktop environment this time. Very happy with this find.
π I've been writing very small pieces in a bunch of places - my quick-posts, flounder.online and a tinylog on my gemini capsule. I'm not landing on any one, and that's OK. I'm just enjoying different writing mediums. I even logged back into Mastodon (via the tut CLI TUI of course), after a 5-month hiatus, to say hello and read what's going on. That itself was a nice experience - I got some helpful feedback trying to decipher the foreign language on the Lenovo, and read about another user's journey into creating a self-hosted search engine - which just blew my mind. That was the positive vibes I got from a year ago when I first joined - inspiration and helpful friendly communications. Anyway, regarding the writing mediums, I have some ideas to simplify and own-my-own-method but I think it will just brew for a while while I scatter myself all over the place. bacardi55 and Dima are providing me with a lot of inspiration.
π» Tools
- btop - a prettier and more informative tool to top
- screenfetch - a lightweight alternative to neofetch
- cpufetch - like screenfetch but for CPU details
πΊ Watching
- Mr Robot (Season 2) - One of the best shows I've seen. I'm 9 years late (this season was released in 2016), but I am seriously digging it.
π§ Listening to...
- Proton Radio - One of my favourite background music radios when on the computer.
πΈοΈ Currently reading across the weird web
- Good Internet - I'm actually reading the PDF while I wait for the hard copy to arrive. Impressive undertaking by Alexandra
- PAC - Personal Ambient Computing - I like this sideways thinking.
- Trying to Get Chimera Linux Running on Pentium Class Hardware - I recently picked up a free alix3d2 board so great to see this use-case. I reckon it'll end up in a too-hard basket, but maybe something for a rainy day.
