Got a lot of exciting things installed today. At home in the morning I got NextCloud working on my Supermicro TrueNAS server.
At work, boss wanted me to trial linux on our field laptops. On an old clunker I installed Ubuntu with Virtualbox running Windows 10. We do a lot of network configuration of routers, switches, AV and security equipment. Some software is windows-only, and require USB licences. Before end of day I got USB recognised in the Windows 10 Virtualbox. Will need to do some local network and software testing.
We're also looking at installing NextCloud at work to escape Google Drive. I think I'm going to opt for the boss's spare QNAP to start with, because we just want to run a minimal NextCloud for 5 users with a 1TB RAID1 mirror setup. I'd prefer a Supermicro, HP Proliant or TrueNAS Mini, which are all compatible with the TrueNAS OS, but the price is just too much for that hardware. We install Ubiquiti routers, switches and APs for a lot for our clients, and saw they have a UNAS range, but it seems they're a bit early days and like QNAP and Synology, locked into their own OS. I'll trial the QNAP to start with and continue to tinker with my own Supermicro, so we can make some comparisons.
After a run, when I got home I installed Immich on the Supermicro. I wanted something better for browsing and storing my photos and I am really happy with how Immich is looking on first test. Installed the app on my Android and managed to sync my Camera album very quickly. It's a delight to browse.
