Swear I can't get a break. Got the fever big time, as well as a blocked ear. Jaw sore from easing pressure off the ear. Didn't sleep a wink last night with the sweats. Before it hit, I caught up with friends and fam earlier in the week, tried out float therapy, and managed my longest run since October last year (16k).

Geekery

Stepping out of my comfort zone again. Purchased a tiny cheap VPS for the first time, back to trying Alpine Linux, and working on yet another website which is focused around some plain-text projects I have.

Tools discovered

vscode-langservers-extracted - Love these little LSPs. Can't believe I've been writing my HTML and CSS without this. Should speed things up. Some wizadry happening in helix now with say color: #26c26c it shows a little swatch of the actual colour. Mind boggles.
when - Been trying out some simplified text-based calendars. At 159 kB, when packs a lot in. The calendar entry syntax is easy to understand, and handles recurring events well.
calendar.txt - Even simpler, and like my todo.txt system I can convert to .md and can integrate well with my notes and Obsidian on Android.
remind - Another calendar tool. Still lightweight, but a bit more advanced with a GUI and export tools. I won't be using it, but thought it was a cool project.

Reading

DNF'd Idoru by William Gibson. Not for me. Couldn't grasp the story and didn't really want to. Too many characters with too short a time with them before switching to another character or another time in the storyline. The language feels easy enough to read, but I still struggled to follow along. It's like the writing wrestles with a dyslexia I didn't know I had.
Finished Woo Woo - ** Easy read. BUT... The inevitable climax was too short-lived and a little anti-climatic. It did not make up for the grind that I had to endure with our unlikeable artist protaganist Sabine. I get she is meant to be unlikeable, but her flaws didn't pack enough.

Watched

BMX Bandits (1983) - *** After a walk around Manly and Shelly Beach a mate mentioned this was showing on SBS One and a lot of the paths look exactly the same. It actually shows very well what our streets look like here around the beaches. Cool to watch. I had no idea Brian Trenchard-Smith of The Man from Hong Kong and Turkey Shoot fame directed it.
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (2026) - * Felt like a music video the whole way through, with music that didn't fit what was going on. Didn't get into it at all. Almost turned it off. Should have turned it off.
