Firefox plugins

These are the Firefox plugins/extensions I use:

uBlock Origin</a> - Essential to block out all the junk. This was a game changer when I heard about it only 6 months ago. If you are seeing YouTube ads, visiting recipe websites, or just using the internet full stop, then this is a must. </li>
Google Sign-in Popup Blocker</a> - I can't stand those popups. Only release June 2024, this is fairly new, and makes it really easy to disable those relentless popups. </li>
Bitwarden Password Manager</a> - I use Bitwarden to manage my passwords, so this is a no-brainer. I make sure the "Display suggestions when icon is selected" option is ticked under the Autofill settings so I only see suggestions in forms when I click the icon (sometimes the suggestions get in the way otherwise). </li>
Dark Mode Website Switcher</a> - I switch between dark and light mode a lot, and to do it via settings takes a while, so this is a nice little button that now sits next to my address bar that does it in one click. </li> </ul>
That's it. There's a lot of hoohah about browsers at the moment, but Firefox with the above works just fine for me.

Wow, I didn't realise, but 6 months ago I hadn't heard of about 80% of these. Things moved fast. Definitely geeked out a bit this year. The big win was getting out of Windows. I feel like I'm taking back control, though there's more work to be done. The battle continues.

Hardware and Operating Systems</h1>

Main Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 3525 </li>

Operating System: Linux - I tried it for the first time 6 months ago, and it's been a hell of a learning experience, but I'm comfortable in Linux alone now. I've removed Windows and my Microsoft 365 subscription expires in January which I won't be renewing. </li>
Distro: Debian 12 bookworm</a> - Really fits me. It's slim but I'm managing to get all the software I need up and running. </li>

Desktop Environment: GNOME 43.9</a> - I just find this neat and tidy, and reminds me less of Windows like the other desktop environments I tried.

These manage to get around our security blocking.

Firefox</a> - Plus the uBlock Origin</a> plugin. </li>

OneCommander</a> - Fantastic for grouping folders from all sorts of places - Teams, network drives, OneDrive - and using aliases so they make sense to me (without affecting the owner's naming). The search is much nicer and quicker than File Explorer, and keyboard shortcuts and dual panes are super useful. </li>

Obsidian</a> - I've been chopping and changing my task management and note taking apps, but for now this is my choice. I've installed the Tasks and TimeStamper community plugins only. I had a pretty good workflow happening with OneNote, but the weird abilities like being able to click anywhere and start typing in that spot is pretty annoying. Simplicity has been my goal lately and Obsidian is doing the trick. </li>

Greenshot</a> - Nice snipping tool. Quick shortcuts, and editor is fantastic for simple markup. </li>

Password Safe</a> - Simple password manager. I used to use this for personal use too, syncing the files with work/personal OneDrives but I've recently moved to Bitwarden</a> for personal use so I no longer do the syncing, but have kept the old Password Safe .safe file on my work computer where I keep adding work related passwords. </li>

Kate text editor</a> - I don't need this very often, but it's useful if I'm drilling into some data. I used to have Notepad++</a> but my permissions to update it eventually got blocked, so Kate it is. </li> </ul>
