🗓️ Weeknote 2025-W52

2025-12-31 07:53

A bit late on this one, but what's a week? Trying out a new format.

My brain is really appreciating the time off work. I can feel my creative juices flowing again... a sign my wee head is at rest. My GTD revamp is helping too. I hope I can carry this feeling into the new year.

🌱 Lots happening in the garden. It's been fun. T is enjoying it too. Nice to have someone to share this with. Things are growing quick so we're chowing down on all the rewards daily. It's amazing how much a single zuchinni plant produces. Silverbeet and spring onion a-plenty. A new greens crop of rocket/tatsoi/russian kale/mustard about to get their first cut. Eyeing up succession planting.

I did some Summer-solstice pruning of the fruit trees. Supposedly this timing encourages less-vigurous growth the following season (opposed to winter/spring pruning), which is what I want to keep my trees small, manageable and less unwieldly (like the smallweb of my garden har har).

Down at the allotment, I can dispell the fear that the potatoes I planted weren't going to survive. There is a bounty. I threw in some sunflower seeds, because why not?, so we've been shifting them around as they appear in awkward places. There will be some garlic survivors after all the Spring rain, but not the greatest yield.

Starting to plan longer term things on paper and in heads and conversation - berry and asparagus patches, extending the fruit tree orchard. Chooks even. I miss my chooks from back in Aus - Dark and Stormy were their names. Permaculture books are back on the lounge floor.

🥾 I experienced my first ever white christmas. It's the middle of Summer here, but we have some nearby mountains, and weather wasn't looking great, so we cancelled an overnight hike and sniffed out some snow for a quick jaunt up to Lake Alta. It was a great experience, and to share it with T and little-T was pretty special.

🩸 Just as my knee is starting to feel good, I tweaked my back in the garden flipping the compost piles, so the last few days have been a bit quiet on the running front. Felt good enough to head out yesterday though. Few more easy days are on the cards before ramping up my strength exercises and running distances. Being a geek and home-dweller and all, I'm pretty equipped to happily pluck about at less strenuous activities, but it'd be nice to be pain free one day.

💻 I got a grande idea of setting up a tilde-like environment on Tailscale to foster a bit of community in a learning environment. Like a tilde server there will be access through SSH. The plan is to include chat-tails for some live communication, a gemini server for internal/external posting, a journal of some kind and collaborative working environments. If this works, it'd be interesting to see if others spin up their own versions. Like a tildeverse there could be a taildeverse?? I'm doing some security hardenning at the moment in preparation, which has already been a learning experience. I may be way out of my depth, but hey I gotta scratch my itches. There's been some interest already from some of my friendly blogosphere comunity, and I can't wait for the first interactions in there. I don't want it to be just my thing, but more of a collective unbundling of possibilities. If you're interested in popping in, shoot me an email so I can send you an invite when it's all up and running. All you'll need is a free Tailscale account, and access to SSH.

📚 Finished reading The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz. It's an easy read with some good little reminders on positive thinking. Written in the 50s some of it doesn't hold up, but I got some healthy mindset shifts out of this one. Have read before.

☮️ That's me. Peace out.
