ποΈ Weeknote 2025-W41
2025-10-12 21:04
The part of me that wants to get a good nights sleep and ready for the week ahead is telling me I'm writing this way to late on a Sunday, but I want to write darn it.
π Oh it feels good to be running in the mountains again. We're getting sporadic winds and rain, but it's warmer, and less snow on the higher elevations, so fun is being had. My header of my last 10 activities is looking a bit more mountainous and about to knock off the short spikey ski runs.
π©Έ Health
Although I'm picking up the running, I've still got a niggle in the left knee. I'm seeing the physio tomorrow to hopefully kickstart some real directed progression. Dealt with this for too long and I don't want to spend Summer worrying about it.
I'm continuing to shed the kilos, dropping below 80kg a few times this week. Diet and running helping.
π’ Work - New site. Classic NZ lunch view with sheep and mountain views.
π§ Been feeling a little overhwelmed lately. Some reading and note-taking has made me realise I'm ready to get back into the GTD mindset. In particular, I want to hone in on my horizons of focus, starting with regaining perspective - my purpose, principles and visions. I'll probably re-read the book.
π» Website - I've started an Activity-log. It's not fully automated yet, but I'm happy with how it's coming along. It's a Python script that pulls data from my Garmin fit files to generate a page for each activity. When there's a route, it will display a map and elevation profile. I plan to do a summary page next showing things like a 6-week totals chart, recent peaks bagged, and expanded weekly summaries like I've got at the bottom of this post. Inspired by:
π» Tools

YunoHost via Melyanna - Sounds like user friendly server software for... serving software.
-
FreedomBox also via Malyanna - same as above.
πΊ Watched
-
The Green Zone (2010) - Pretty entertaining Matt Damon Iraq war movie.
-
Weapons (2025) - Creepy witch fun.
-
Modern Love (Season 1, 2019) - Digging this series. Totally unrelated episodes, a bit like Black Mirror, but about relationships. Moving.

-
Resurrect the Old Web | Steve via Jason - Encouraging connection via blogs and RSS. I've found so many writers through personal sites, blogs, curation pages, webrings. It is thriving and I'm so happy to be a part of it.
-
Warriors of Narration | Marisabel - An amazing read on building community through narration and creation.
-
Web Server Rollback | Nathan - Nice to read some personal reasons not to upgrade to Debian 13 Trixie, and thoughts on the direction of Debian. Reasons are not applicable to me at this stage, but posts like these do help me form a broader perspective on the distro space.
-
Alpine Linux on a Bare Metal Server | γγͺγ¦γΉ - I tried Alpine Linux probably a bit too early in my Linux journey and found it a bit difficult to set up. I might be ready again to give it another crack on one of my other machines. There's some nice little tips in here, and like above some reasons against.
-
The Zeigarnik Effect | Malik Alimoekhamedov via Eleanor - Overwhelm, GTD, notes, re-alignment, memory. A nice little nudge for me.
-
DeckZero-Alpha: The Journey to a Portable Command-Line Companion | RevRichard - So cyperpunky.
-
Writing Emails In Helix | Daniel - The helix text editor is awesome. I write everything in there, but not emails.. yet.
-
Upgrade to terminal notes system | Dom - Knowing Dom is on a tmux, helix and yazi notes setup, I couldn't click this one fast enough. I like the glow markdown viewer integration.
