Another wet, windy, sunny, hot, cold, all-the-Spring-things week. Continue to jag the little windows with the right activities. Happy days. Had another great weekend over the Wanaka side. Met T's friends for dinner making some delicious dumplings. What a fun way to enjoy a meal together. T put the work in during the day, prepping all the ingredients and fills. Wrapping, frying and steaming the dumplings was the easy fun bit. Some rough reminders: 5min fry, 5min steam, low heat, decent amount of oil, don't turn, but shimmy them so they don't stick.
β·οΈ Saturday we went skiing at Cardrona Ski Field again. Probably my last of the season. Took the bus up, which was not a bad experience. Only a 20 minute wait at the bottom, on the way back we scored the last seats so walked straight on. Visibility was on and off all day, skiing in the snowfall most of the time. The coverage felt really good though under our skis. I enjoyed going a little faster on some runs.
π Ramping up the running. Nice runs along the river close to home during the week. I gave my knee a proper test on Sunday, feeling like it was ready for a half-decent run. Tackled an 18km/1000m return-leg up Grandview Mountain, and it felt great! I was able to run pretty well, pushing some uphills and letting loose a bit on the downhills. There was early signs my knee might not be ready, but no sharp pains, and once warmed up there were no issues at all. I played some mental games with myself, pretending there was no injury and that I was fit and quick, and well it seemed to work. I felt light and nimble, even setting the pace a few times for my fit friends. I did feel a bit rusty on the climb in my lower-back, which is pretty common if I haven't done a hill run for a while, but I'm confident if I keep it up that will strengthen again. There might be some exercises I can do to assist (crunches?). I'll admit to popping a couple of ibuprofen earlier in the morning for my mid-back pain (a separate issue), which may have masked some knee pain, but as I write this a day later I feel like I haven't done any damage.
Finished the day with a sauna. The hot-cold therapy is a delight to the body. I didn't finish with a cold plunge this time, which was much nicer. The body just melted afterwards. The winds were up, so when we were plunging in the lake we had to hang on tight to the rocks (there's no soft cozy spots here). I'm guessing this is a pretty good recovery activity for my run too. Regardless, it just feels amazing. I seem to handle the hot and cold OK. Again, mental games help.
π’ Work - New site, new views. Pre-wires are always a bit of hard work physically, but we nutted this one out in 2 days without any hitches. Job is a new-build with security (smoke, cameras, sirens, PIRs), AV (including a few invisible speakers), data and WAPs, a separate garage, 2 racks, likely Starlink ISP.
I'm getting the shits with some bad business processes at work. Unfortunately a couple of us are thrown into situations that make us and the business look really bad, when some simple communication and planning could've avoided it in the first place. I'm working on finding a sweet spot of encouraging better practices, but there's very limited time to "sharpen the saw", and I'm generally shut down anyway. It's not a great feeling. I at least know when to halt my work until issues are solved so to not cause any major problems. But there are so many halts that could be sorted much quicker and easier with the right prior planning. The client ends up paying for it, and the company looks stupid. Meh.
π©Έ Health - Although my weight is hovering in the 81s I feel like I'm at a tipping point where I'll start dropping to my target area of 76-78 kg. Diet and exercise is changing. Body, gut and metabolism is feeling right.
π On note-taking - Having fun in my note system. The friction is at a comfortable level, and searching and retrieving previous notes feels ok. I've opted for wiki-links over hashtags for the moment because I like the rucola integration.

Hong's Tech Blog - So many useful cheatsheets for linux commands. Hong's posts remind me of so many I've used only once or twice before, but a quick read of one sparks so many use-cases for me.
