ποΈ Weeknote 2025-W36
2025-09-09 19:54
I've been sitting on the thought of "do I or don't I write a weeknote" for a while now because these are my front-of-mind things, and when I'm exploring a new relationship, that is going to be pretty darn front-of-mind, and I want to respect others' privacy, so... here is some somewhat restrained front-of-mind pieces from my (extended) week.
π’ Work and education
I've been studying a lot for the last 2 weeks. I ticked off my Cabling & Infrastructure Technician (CIT) exam, thus completing my agreed upskilling path for my job. I'm 10 months in, and revisiting all the course content leading up to the exam made me realise how much I have learnt. A lot more things made sense. I could relate a lot of the content to actual work I had done. I think the time taken to get to this point was fitting. I'm very happy with my overall scores too:
Overall Score: 86.66%
Topic Level Scoring:
Domain 1 - Project Processes: 100.00%
Domain 2 - Fundamentals of Electricity and Mathematics: 80.00%
Domain 3 - Tools: 75.00%
Domain 4 - Construction Methods & Materials: 91.66%
Domain 5 - Infrastructure: 84.84%
Domain 6 - Equipment & Hardware: 82.14%
I got excited for professional development again, so am looking forward to taking the next courses on the CEDIA pathway.
I'm spending more time in the office lately, sinking my teeth into KNX and the software that goes with it - ETS. ETS is where we set all the parameters on the devices in the house - input/output modules, switch pucks, heating/cooling actuators, touchscreens etc. You load the device into the software, assign it to rooms and topology, create communication transmissions, then assign them across to other devices on the bus so they talk to each other, opening and closing circuits.
π Writing - I'm enjoying writing in my digital note-taking system again. I've ramped it up significantly, writing like its a journal, but also for capturing research wiki-like notes. I've tweaked my processes slightly so recalling information is more fluid. It's a tight combo of helix, marksman, rucola and tmux. I want to write a post about it at some point, but I'm tweaking it daily, so it may have to be a series of posts. I write about it in my notes as I'm figuring out a process, which wouldn't really be coherent reading for someone else, but it'd be nice to summarise it to something that is.
π± In the garden - I (partly) fixed the irrigation in the greenhouse. I have been using a hose for a long time, but in preparation for Spring I wanted to get this up and running again so I don't have to spend so long watering. After pulling a slug out of the hose connection and clearing some dirt out of the lines I got all but one sprinkler heads going.
π» Tools
- Finamp (beta v0.9.19) - I use this on my Android as my Jellyfin music client. I never had the beta version, and always thought it was a pain that I couldn't view the Artists tab in offline mode. Turns out the beta versions fix this issue, and more.
πΊ Watched
-
The Devil's Bath (2024) German - I thoroughly enjoyed this historical fiction of some pretty grim 17th/18th century occurances. The sounds and visuals drew me in from start to end. I think it told the story very well.
-
The Naked Gun (2025) - On the complete flip side, this one was hilarious. These movies have their own type of humour and this one lives up to Leslie Nielsen's series.
