ποΈ Weeknote 2025-W05

Some random front-of-mind pieces from my week.
π Ran 42.2km / 3,063m profile - Enjoyed some off-piste routes this week kind of just picking my own lines up and over hills. Today was a tough one straight up Ben Lomond from the creek below. 1300m in 5km and a good test of the nerves.
π± Planted more carrots and rocket. Eating current carrots and rocket. Pumpkins are starting to get big, corn is waist height. Apples are looking almost ready, if a little small.
π©Έ Health - Body is feeling good. Sleep could be better. I know what I have to do there. Mentally all good.
π’ Work
-
Awesome new site early in the week, on the top of a peninsula looking over Lake Wanaka. House has some quirky things about it. A car port that goes through the house, a tunnel thats going to have light effects through it, big 8 foot rock feature, roof garden, pool on the side of a cliff. We're just pre-wiring at the moment, running cables through conduit that runs between walls and ceilings. A lot of concrete in this one.
-
Little jobs for the rest of the week, "landing" cable into a decided hub location, adding (yet another) cable to another pre-wire job which should be finished now, replacing a gate keypad (learnt all about the web dashboard configuration settings), replacing and adding new WAPS (wireless access points), moving keypads. Never a dull moment.
π Finished reading The Highly Sensitive Person by Elaine N. Aron. There are few books that hit home like this one. A huge eye opener on my whole life, especially my recent feelings that confused the hell out of me at my old job. I was skeptical when a couple therapists jumped to potential I had ADHD. I get overwhelmed with environments, socialising, events, even just walking down the street. I get exhausted from things that should be relaxing and fun, but I thrive and excel when I'm in my controlled environments. I am a HSP, and this book has, and will continue to, be a guide and reminder that being a HSP is a powerful tool (I can read a room in an instant, I see and hear things others miss, to name a few). Powerful yes, but tiring too. Now I've recognised this is a thing, and I'm not fucking mad, I can work with it.
π» Website - Changed the light theme background colour, reduced the number of items in the nav bar, added my todo.txt to weeknotes, posted a couple of things, had some nice feedback via email.
π» Tools
-
tsacdop podcast player on my Android. Wanted to try something different. Seems pretty good so far. Weird name though.
-
codeberg - I want to start a wiki. These git forges seem to be pretty capable for handling markdown files and I'm getting comfortable running git commands. Codeberg is free, open-source and has Pages to publish it as a website, or even an Integrated Wiki function that allows anyone with access to edit the wiki. Thought I'd try something that isn't GitHub.
πΊ Watched - Sci fi was on the menu this week.
-
Blade Runner (1982) - I just love this movie. The pace, dialogue, visuals, characters.
-
Event Horizon (1997) - Doesn't hold up as well as Blade Runner, but it's still a fun little romp.
-
Levels (2024) - An average low-budget flick about parallel worlds. The language they were using was almost like each world was a git repository that could tested, tweaked, deleted at will. I thought that was pretty cool.
-
I tried to watch Severence series 2, but am not going to continue.
π§ Listening to... heavy stuff this week.
-
High on Fire - Cometh the Storm (2024) / bandcamp - The right amount of heavy.
-
Oryx - Primordial Sky (2024) / bandcamp - Very atmospheric doom metal.
-
Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere (2024) / bandcamp - A progressive cosmic metal journey.

[12:06] Site is freakin noisy today. Excavators with jackhammers, grinders. Windy too, dust blowing everywhere. Bloody rattling. We've pinched one of the contractor's office containers for smoko.

[21:01] Only watched 2 episodes of Severence series 2 and I'm done. Felt it was just rubbing in my face the fact that TV series are designed to hook you in with tiny little nuggets of really-not-very-interesting glimpses into how the series might unravel -- Mark's neighbour knows something about his deceased wife, zoom in of Lumon's CEOs? eyes watching how her inny had a quick pash with the Mark inny without revealing exactly what she was feeling (desire?). And nothing else really happened. Oh and Christopher Walken got a 5 second part, spying on an outy. Another seed planted to hook me in for another 8 episodes of probably a whole lot of more nothing. Well no thanks. I'll do something else with my time.
