Weeknote 2024-W35

Some random front-of-mind pieces from my week.
🌱 1st of September. Spring is here. Buds are showing in timely fashion. Started clearing some weeds in the greenhouse, ready for planting. Planted a usual quick-rotation crop of rocket, red russian kale, musclun mix and radish. Stoked I've had greens all winter from the greenhouse, and now I'm into the next season.
🌧️ Lots of needed rain this week. Happened at the right times over the weekend so didn't really affect my activities, other than muddy trails, which I like anyway. The garden is going to go nuts soon. Got the mower out for the first time in a while.
🏃 Ran 63.50km / 2,759m
-
Today was my long run (22km/1,448m) and it felt good (last two peaks in graph, photos below). Used poles for the first time in a while. Ran with a mate.

Joined a September Yahtzee running challenge organised by a local(ish) running shop. Not something I usually do, but thought it'd help with my head a little to have some targets for the month. I can't get to the social runs because of my location, but I should be able to tackle the rest. It's a good mix of vert, peak and hut bagging, as well as consistent streak running, morning/night runs and double-days. There's a fella at work doing it too so we might get a couple of missions in together. Should keep me busy.
🩸 Health
-
More weight readings under 80kg this week. Downward trend starting to appear (graph below). Looking to keep that ball rolling. Target is a consistent 76/77kg (what I feel is my race-ready weight).
-
Started seeing a new therapist. I wanted someone local and face to face so we can tackle my things for the long-run. She seems good. We are actually exploring ADHD, which I admit I know nothing about, but with my overwhelm of voices in my head, and struggle to handle multiple things coming at me, maybe its a thing. Worth exploring anyway.
💻 Discovered that I didn't actually know what IndieWeb was. fyr and fLaMEd cleared it up.
📝 I wrote a blog about internetting, went around in circles doing it, struggled with Imposter Syndrome, wasn't real happy with the end result, but posted it anyway.
💻 New tools
-
SoulseekQT - Peer to peer file-sharing. I totally use it for legal activities.
-
Warpinator - Allows me to send/receive files between Linux and Android.
-
Winpinator - Allows me to send/receive files between Windows and Linux. I'm not ready for proper server setups so this is perfect for me. Super quick and easy to use. Perfect for the job.
💻 Website Updates
-
I've created an automated season calendar for my "In the Garden" posts. It depicts where in the season the post was written, based on percentage of year elapsed. It's all text, so it's quick to load, and I don't have to do a thing other than have a date in my frontmatter, which is awesome. I think it will help with context on garden logs, especially if someone is reading from the northern hemisphere, as it can be confusing if I am harvesting tomatoes here when its snowing outside there. Responsive scaling doesn't work great on mobile devices (yet).
-
I'm also thinking about a "crop log". I'm halfway through creating this. Essentially a log of all my plantings and harvesting in easy-to-read text lists, but with the ability to drill into crop types, planting locations, years, or individual plantings etc. I don't know how capable my setup will allow this but I'm getting creative in how it'll work. I've had a similar setup in Obsidian on my Android, so I am going to try and piggy back off that. Example workflow: capture plantings and harvesting activity in Obsidian, sync to Linux, run scripts to convert YAML to TOML, generate HTML, publish to website. We'll see..
🎶 Listening to...
-
PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love (1994) - Grungey and melancholic. She's great.
-
Morphine - The Night (2000) - This took me by suprise. Different pace to Cure for Pain, which was all I had heard of Morphine previously. It took me a couple listens to get into it, but once I allowed myself to be immersed I really dug it. Its actually been a really nice meditative album for me. Thanks @jake4480@c.im for the recommendation.
-
Dozer - Beyond Colossal (2008) - Solid stoner rock. Vocals are powerful.
