Some random front-of-mind pieces from my week.

I continue to be blown away by the Indie Web community. There is so much inspiring stuff out there. I'm going to re-ignite my blogroll at some point because I want to share all your greatness. You are all amazing.

🏃 Ran 58.10km / 2,463m. Now we're talking. Finding my sweet spot again. I got out to a few local guerilla trails I tend to share with the goats. I sadly heard that there was a climbing fatality at the cliffs off Gorge Rd on Wednesday. I ran up through this area on Tuesday (first spike in the header's elevation profile). I use the permanent anchors and ropes set up here and sometimes see climbers doing their thing. Hope the community is doing ok.

🩸 I've recorded my weight under 80kg twice this week. Feels good. I'll contribute it to my running routine returning and better eating habits (yeah, no shit). Sleep and mental health still aint great. I think work is the biggest contributor. Continue to work on it.

❄️ It snowed this week down at town level (~300m). First of Winter, which is wrapping up. It didn't settle, but it was exciting.
-
📺 Watched Halt and Catch Fire season 4. Glad its over. Didn't really enjoy it after season 2. I think I'm done with shows for a while. Back to books.

💻 Website Updates
-
Been playing with images. I've now made it my routine to reduce large images to 800x600 (landscape) or 600x800 (portrait) and use thumbnail GIFs with a set height at 200px. I think this maintains aesthetics whilst keeping aligned to small web principles. It's also how I like to navigate websites. I created a bash script that utilises ImageMagick to format and rename, then upload them to Neocities so they're ready to be used. My next steps are to automatically determine if its landscape/portrait, and populate posts with the formatted HTML. Totally nerding on this stuff. Post to come.

Given spring is around the corner I'm thinking about how to present my In the Garden posts. I'm getting excited about ways of displaying a season graph at the top of each post. I think it would be a useful snapshots for readers and my own reference.

🎶 Listening to... Two of these albums (Felice Brothers and Gorod), by coincidence, begin with sounds of birds chirping in the background, which I've also started noticing in my own backyard with Spring in the air. It was meant to be. I might add, after the first 10 seconds, those two albums could not be any different.

The Felice Brothers - Self Titled (2008) - Fantastic folky album. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I think it allows me to do both. Lots of Dylan-esque storytelling, humour, heartbreak, pistols, and alcohol. It's perfect in it's imperfections, off-notes, coughs, snickers. Highly recommend.
-
Gorod - A Perfect Absolution (2012) - Tech death metal. The riffs in this give me much joy. I liked this as much as the previous album, maybe more. This was the first with new and current vocalist.
-
Morphine - Cure for Pain (1993) - Such a unique band. The bass/sax/vocal combo is awesome. Makes me want to put on shades, go play pool and have a couple beers down the pub. On Thursday.
