The joy of feed management

I've updated the list of RSS feeds I'm subscribed to. It was a thoroughly enjoyable process. Not only did I improve a buggy script that converts my FreshRSS export to that page, but in the process I revisited so many sites that I usually only ever experience via my feed reader.

I love reading in a consistent theme that my RSS reader provides, but clicking through to author's websites reminded me of why I like these personal sites so much... because they're so personal. The sites are like an extra limb, for better or worse better. The person's style is projected through their CSS, image dithering, font choice, colour theming, layout. I especially like the rough edges, and posts of the challenges behind it all. I feel ya!

Although the same words are in my reader, the beliefs and values hit deeper when I read on their carefully, or not so carefully, constructed sites. I feel like I'm in their space, their home, as a guest, and sometimes I just want to chill there for a while.

I'll do this more often.
