New beginnings

Things moved quickly this week. After my first week back at work last week I decided I need to move on. It's not fair on them, or me. It's not a right fit. I stuck it out for the week before having my booked annual leave this week with my family and friends visiting. So I got things moving. On Tuesday I applied for a job in a completely new field. I got a phone interview that afternoon. Thursday I had a face-to-face interview. Today, I got the job.
I've been open with my Manager so my resignation on Monday will not be a surprise. He has been the most amazing supportive boss I could've ever asked for over these past months.
After being in GIS, surveying and asset management for a good 15 years, and more recently Business Process Improvement, I am now making a giant leap (and paycut) back into the private trade sector as an Installation Technician for a company doing high end smart home systems for predominantly new-builds. The team seem like a really good fit. They're going to fast-track my upskilling, and payscale, because it's bloody expensive to live here, and they're aware it's a new field for me so I'll need to start in a junior role. I'll be doing CEDIA's Cabling & Infrastructure Technician and Integrated Systems Technician certifications to begin with.
I'm looking forward to don the steel caps again, use my hands, learn about this new exciting industry. I really do owe it to my boss who gave me the time and space to reflect, reset and explore my interests again.
