It's a bit odd

2024-10-12 07:30

I woke this morning to sirens in the distance, which happens occasionally. Usually an unfortunate car accident, and often tourists not familiar with our roads and road rules. I guess when travelling there is always a risk of something going wrong. Each destination has it's unique probability of something bad happening. Here, our roads can kill. Other places, you might get pick-pocketed, kidnapped, caught in a flood, tsuanmi, earthquake or volcanic eruption. Some places have bears, snakes, spiders.

When I think of those things, certain places come to mind, and if I were to travel to those places I would do a bit more research before heading over, but it would not stop me from going, unless the risk is so high its not worth it. Some things could be seasonal too so you could avoid travelling in those periods.

I'm not a big traveller anyway, but it did just pop in my head this morning wondering how people think about these things.

I also find it odd, and I'm guilty here, that for ski resorts we drive to queue up the road, to then queue in a line to ride a chair lift, to ski or board down a hill. At the end of the day we get back in our metal boxes to join the queues home again. Sometimes hop on a flight too, or another 7 hour drive with stops at McDonalds on the way.

We ride coal-fired steam boats for entertainment.

We commute to work stuck in traffic jams that go each direction. Should we be living in opposite ends of our routes?

The way we live hurts us and our world. How we live and our mental models of what entertainment is, needs to change.

Don't mind me, I'm just having a weird "WTF world?" moment.
